The biggest desert isn't the Sahara?

The highest mountain, the deepest sea, the smallest country: all of Earth's record holders in one quiz. You've probably heard most of them, but they're trickier to pick than you'd think. Every answer comes with the number and the reason.

About this quiz

A quiz of Earth's record holders: the highest mountain, the deepest sea, the smallest country. You've heard of most of them in class, but four options make them surprisingly tricky.

After each pick you get the number, like height or depth, and the reason in one line. Numbers are the commonly used round figures.

The trap is what counts as biggest
A desert just means very little rain, so Antarctica counts. Many questions turn on how lakes, islands or continents are defined.
Numbers in one line
Explanations include the key figure, like about 8,849 m for Everest or about 11 km for the Mariana Trench.
Review only what you missed
Under your result you'll find each question you missed, what you picked, the right answer and why.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no question about the longest river?
Whether the Nile or the Amazon is longer depends on how you measure. There's no single right answer, so we left it out.
A number differs slightly from my textbook.
Heights and depths vary a little with when and how they were measured. We use widely quoted round figures.
Do I get the same questions every time?
Each round is picked at random. Only a friend's challenge link gives you the same questions in the same order.
