Who Left That Empty Tent in Minecraft's New Forest?
An update that tells you to pack for camping
The official Minecraft site released Wilderness Bound on September 15 and called it the third game drop of 2026. You can play it in both Bedrock Edition and Java Edition, and if you already own the game you don't pay anything extra.
The name was revealed earlier in September. That announcement told players to pack food, tools, straw beds, a map and even cushions before heading out. In other words, this drop is about heading into the woods for outdoor exploration, building and adventure.
Rust-colored trees, mushrooms you can bounce on
The new biome is called the dappled forest. Its tall poplar trees come in fiery, rusty tones that are hard to miss, with red shrubs growing between them. Chop a poplar tree and you get poplar wood, a new block you can craft into a full set.
Red shrubs keep their red color even when you place them in another biome, which makes them great for decorating. Shelf mushrooms give you a bounce when you're doing parkour and also go into stew. Feed bone meal to a small shelf mushroom and it grows into a large one.
A tent, a campfire and a map in the chest
The abandoned camp is a brand-new structure. It shows up in the dappled forest and in other biomes too, and apart from an empty tent and a campfire there's no sign anyone was ever there. Even the official description doesn't say who left it, and leaves it as a question.
The loot is still there, though. You can find adventure maps in the chests, and they point the way to other abandoned camps and structures in the Overworld. Maps got a new look in this drop as well. Find one camp, and it leads you to the next.
A straw bed is gone after one sleep
You can find a straw bed or craft one from 3 hay bales. Sleeping in it gets you through the night, but it's used up after one go and it doesn't change your spawn point. You skip the night and keep your usual place to come back to.
Cushions turn up in abandoned camps, or you can craft one from 3 wool slabs of the same color. Use them to build chairs or sofas. There are more building blocks too: concrete and wool now come in stairs and slabs, both in 16 colors.
