About this game
Type a word and your own pixel monster is born. Same word, same monster, every time
What this game is
Type a word and a pixel monster hatches out of it. It is drawn in exact left to right symmetry, and typing the same word again brings back the same creature, on any device, at any time.
Use your own name, or any word you like. Cycle through the four kinds (blob, bot, beast, bug) and the five colours, and when one of them is right, save it as an image or send the link.
How to play
- The word is the seed
- The word is turned into a number that decides the body shape, the horns and where the eyes sit. Change one character and you get a completely different monster.
- Four kinds, five colours
- Blobs come out round, bots come out boxy, beasts grow horns, and bugs get antennae and legs. The colour is one of five.
- Colour never moves a pixel
- Colour takes no part in the calculation that shapes the creature. Find a monster you like, then run through all five palettes and the drawing stays exactly as it was.
- Variation, saving and the link
- Variation moves you to the next monster from the same word, and save pulls it down as a square PNG. Sharing builds a link that carries the word, the kind, the colour and the variation number.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the same word always give the same monster?
- Yes. With the same word, kind and variation number, the result matches down to the pixel on any device.
- Does changing the colour change the shape?
- It does not. Colour sits outside the shape calculation, so swapping palettes just puts the same monster in different clothes.
- Can I save the picture?
- The save button downloads it as a PNG. It comes out square, which suits a profile picture or a sticker.
- Is there a length limit?
- Sixteen characters. There is no fee and nothing to install, and one Google sign-in has it drawing right there on your phone.
