About this game
Merge matching numbers to reach the 2048 tile, addictive!
What this game is
On a 4×4 board, push two matching numbers together and they fuse into one that is twice as big. 2 becomes 4, 4 becomes 8, and the run is won the moment a 2048 tile shows up.
The rule fits in one line, but the board tangles fast. Every move packs the whole grid to one side and drops a fresh tile into an empty cell, and once nothing is empty and nothing can merge, the run is over. Where you park your big numbers is most of the skill.
How to play
- One direction per move
- Swipe up, down, left or right on a phone, or use the arrow keys on a desktop. One move slides every tile on the board tight against that side.
- Only equals merge
- A 2 only merges with a 2 and a 4 with a 4, and your score climbs each time. A single move can merge two pairs in the same line.
- Every move adds another 2
- Whenever the board actually shifts, a fresh 2 lands in one of the empty cells. With no gap left and no pair to join, that run ends.
- Park the big number in a corner
- Pin your largest tile to one corner and leave that row alone, and runs last much longer. Cycling three directions instead of all four keeps the board from tangling.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it end when I make 2048?
- A 2048 tile brings up the winning screen and stops that run. There is no mode that carries on to bigger numbers.
- Is my best score saved?
- Your best score stays in this browser. The board in progress is kept too, so you can leave and pick up where you stopped.
- Does it cost anything?
- It is free. Opening the game just needs a one-time Google sign-in.
- Does it work on a phone?
- It opens straight in the browser on a phone, tablet or desktop. On a phone you just swipe, and there is no app to install.
