About this game
Deduce a secret number of different digits from strike and ball hints
What this game is
DoYou picks a secret number made of different digits from 1 to 9, and you narrow it down one guess at a time. Each guess tells you how many digits are right and in the right spot (strike, S) and how many are right but misplaced (ball, B).
It is the same number baseball people play on a scrap of paper between classes. Three digits give you 10 tries, four digits give you 12, and the more tries you have left when you crack it, the higher the score.
How to play
- How to read a hint
- 1S 1B means two of your digits are in the number and one of them is also in the right spot. Nothing at all is an out, which lets you cross out every digit you used.
- Use the notes row
- Tap a digit in the notes row once for ✗ and again for ○. Crossing out digits ruled out by an out makes the next guess much easier.
- Different names, same game
- Japan calls it Hit and Blow, and the Chinese-speaking world calls it 1A2B. Switch the page language and the hint labels switch to that local style.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the number include 0?
- No. Only the digits 1 to 9 are used, and no digit appears twice.
- How is the score worked out?
- Three digits score (11 - tries) × 10 and four digits score (13 - tries) × 20. Running out of tries scores 0.
- Does repeating a guess cost a try?
- No. The game just tells you that you already tried it and leaves your tries alone.
