About this game

Shade squares by number clues to reveal a hidden picture. Sixteen puzzles

What this game is

The numbers beside each line give the lengths of the shaded runs in it. Several numbers mean several runs, with at least one empty square between them. Shade by the clues and a hidden picture appears.

It goes by many names around the world, and Japan calls it oekaki logic. There are eight 5×5 starters and eight full 10×10 puzzles, all chosen so they solve by logic alone, with no guessing.

How to play

Start with the big numbers
An 8 in a line of 10 always covers the middle six squares, whichever way it slides. Fill in where long runs must overlap first.
Mark blanks with ✕
Switch the tool to ✕ to mark squares that must stay empty. Finished lines grey out their numbers, so you only need to watch what is left.
Drag to shade a line
Press and drag across or down to shade a whole run. Start the drag on a shaded square and it erases instead.

Frequently asked questions

Does it tell me when I shade a wrong square?
No. It only counts as solved when your shading matches the answer exactly. Watch which line numbers grey out.
How is the score worked out?
Take 150 for 5×5 or 600 for 10×10 and subtract the seconds taken, with a floor of 10.
Are solved puzzles remembered?
Yes. Puzzles solved on this device show their picture and a ✓ in the list.
